6 months locked... epiphany

It's official, April 10,th, I am now 6 mos locked. I think I have come along ways. I also feel as though I have a long ways to go. I had to dig deep in the virtual photo album and I found a hideous picture of day 1. I love the way my hair has plumped since then.

EPHIPHANY

I reached my own personal conclusion about hair coloring. Now this is my own opinion, and by far I am not an expert. I know that while my hair is locking, it will react the same way as when it was loose. My hair was wavy and curly in its loose state and it is now wavy and curly. When I use to dye my hair it made it weak and brittle, it may just do the same. The only hair color that really worked for me was when I dyed it black. I used to love dying my hair the strawberry blonds, and bronzes and golds. But within a few months it became extremely dry and weak. Despite knowing the results, I would still dye my hair these colors. So I am not going to do the same thing to my locks. I like my natural hair color. I am not in love with my natural hair color, but it suits me. I thought that I might dye my locks once they have matured, but there is nothing wrong with the color of my hair now. I am also the type of person who likes my hair to be black. Not black with a dirty red tint. So that may be my only weakness to want to dye my hair black. At the ends of my hair you can see a slight dirty red tint. I think this is because the ends were golden and then I threw a black dye over it, and it is showing through. So I may just end up cutting those ends of in the future.

I also am learning that each of us have differences with our locks. Some may be able to color their hair with no problem, and some may experience problems. Just like some individuals lock faster, or some may have super growth spurts within each retightening. Our locks are have differences, what may work for you may not work for me.

I agree with you I love having blue black hair. Also I really have never heard of black dye hurting strong hair when dying it. I think that you would look wonderful with blue black locs. Everyone's locs are different but personalized to each person. I have been checking on ya sense your first month loced. Congrads on your six month journey Lakia. Their looking good.

Lakia if your going to dye maybe you should try Manic Panic Hair Dye by Knotty Boy it is hair dye made for locks. You can't go wrong with this stuff.

Congrats on reaching 6 months! I'll be there in a few weeks. It's a nice feeling of having made it to some type of milestone. I also agree with you on the dye issue. Some people's locs seem to handle it alright but if you think your hair might not love it, then why damage perfectly good locs.

Happy 6 Months! I'm itching to dye my hair but I'm not so sure that is a good idea due to the fact that all of my locks are STILL NOT locked. Anyhow I can really tell a difference in your locks they have really matured. It sure does seem like you have been locked longer than 6 months though. Take Care

Thanks everyone, it does not feel like a half of a year. I can see major changes in my hair though. Some of my ends drive me crazy, and when they do I just *snip, snip*. I need to stop though. I look forward to the next six months.

Congratulations. I am right behind you April 10th was 5 months for me. I'm having issues in the back they keep coming a loose. My hair is so straight in the back area. How long do you think it will take for yours to lock completely? It may take me 2 or 3 years. If you don't have to color than I wouldn't. I really want to color because I have grey hair.

Congrats on your 6 months! Your hair is really filling in and looking good! I want to dye my hair so bad I can tast it. I can't though. My hair won't be able to take it. I might check a dark brown just to cover the grey though. I wonder if that would be the same as black as far as not to damaging?

Congratulations! I recommend Naturtint dye. It's a tad pricey but healthy as far as dyes go. It can be found at a local health food store. Your locks look great.
