OMG... I Think She Likes It

My parents asked my kids over for the Super Bowl game. I was excited, no kids... just husband and wife time. So I stayed awhile at my parents house after the game and my mom and I did some bonding things like doing her make up and she showed me her new excercise toy (which damn near killed me). LOL! She was asking me if she should grow her hair back, I told her no because the short style she wears is very cute on her face. Then I asked if she is still letting her hair dresser perm her hair. She told me that her hair dresser only puts it on the back and on her side burns. My mom has a very loose curl, my curl isn't as loose as hers. A couple of years ago my moms hair started to thin. It was becuase they were giving her a touch up ever 6 weeks. WTF! Now when I used to perm my hair, I did it every 6 months or once a year and it was a mild formula. My mom hair texture is like a 2B, so basically her hair dresser was just making extra money off of her knowing good and well she had no reason to get a perm. So now she lets them perm her hair sparringly. Thank goodness...

She has finally admitted that she likes my locks. She loves the size of them and she thinks they suit me well. My little brother has started his second set of locks. His first set was so adorable, and he had grown them for 2 years. My mother hated them. He cut them off about a month before I got mine, and he is now starting over. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside that she has finally made PEACE with MY HAIR.

Yes, getting your family to see greatness from something we have been taught prior is dirty is hard. It is wonderful that she sees the difference between then and now. Also that the locs make you more individual because they look different on each person.

Meikmeika- I am first going to try to convert my sister since she has natuaral hair too, and then maybe mom-dukes.

Sistalocd - I got them from Claire's. I love that store.

Thanks Sez - I do feel a sense of individuality with my locks... now only if I can do an updo. Thats a work in progress.

Lakia how much swallowing have you expierenced with your locs at this point? Where the size installed and paid for has changed? I read blogs where they say they stopped B&B early however their hair is till not locked and has swallowed so why stop B&B?

I don't think I quite follow what your saying. Are you referring to "shrinkage", if so my hair is about 1/2 to 3/4 the lengh it was without the sisterlocks. I did not B&B the last time that I washed, my consultant wanted to see how my hair was going to react, it held up well. I am going to wash again tonight because I have my 3rd retightening tomorrow. I will be sure to take pics and blog about it. But please elaborate on what you mean about "swallowing".

I am glad I found your Colorful Blog. Even though I didn't start with sister locks, I like reading about the journeys of ppl. who did. I am a new blogger by the way. Is is ok if I add a link on my page to yours so I can follow your hair journey? I might even learn some things.

Nickie - By all means you can link my blog, I am glad you like it.

Sez - I have experienced some swelling. I got to do a comparison post. My hair is much thicker than when I was first locked almost 4 months ago.

Great to have the mummy seal of approval:) I must say mine was rather slow to warm up to our Sisterlocks(Ama and mine) and it's the length which won her over. She does admit however that she's envious of the time we DON't spend in salons.(heehee). She decided early on this year to stop relaxing her hair...we'll see what happens.
