Loc is a Loc?????

I felt compelled to blog about this. I love my sisterlocks. For me I feel like for once I am making peace with my hair. Can I embrace my locks? Can I share my hair tips, emotions, and experiences about being locked without sounding as if my locking method is better than yours? Each person is entitled to their opinions and perceptions. If you ask me do I have dreads or small braids, I would be the first to tell you "no, I have sisterlocks". At the end of the day my loc is still a loc, and the type of locs I have are sisterlocks. Is there a problem with having pride in something that I paid for, and take care of daily. If you ask me if my purse was a knock off I would let you know that baby its Prada.

There are tons of ways that I could have locked my hair, but I choose the sisterlocks method. I appreciate those who have given me advice, price analysis, referrals, etc., because I would have been devasted if I spent my hard earned cash on "step-sisterlocks". If I paid to get palm rolled locks maintained, then they should look fabulous. If I pay for BMW then I shouldn't get a Buick. And if I choose to get a perm or weave it up, than so be it, but that's just ain't for me.

If I am viewed as a "snob", then let haters keep hating, cause at the end of the day... my head is still held high and my locks are still flowing.

I agree with you completely, I look for blogs where woman have sisterlocks because this is the method I am choosing for MY hair. Also having pride in your self after spending money on anything is always needed. Locs count money period, but sisterlocks is the count of a lifestyle change. If you pay to maintain sisterlocks that it should be said what they are. I know I'm sick of hearing already why would you pay that much to loc YOUR hair? Whateva! Keep moving and flowing Lakia.

I completely understand you, Lakia. I was just having a convo with my consultant about vanity. I had a couple of bad hair days, felt vain to be so concerned about it. So she asked me why I got Sisterlocks. I told her for convenience, beauty and because they look sooo different. She told me that because I love my hair so much, it's not vanity, it's a choice that I have made to cultivate my beauty this way. Yes it's expensive. People pay more for less. I justify the cost (to myself) by saying that this is permanent. And BEAUTIFUL to boot. She also said the bad hair days were "all in my head." Pardon the pun.

Nonetheless, it is our decision, and no one questions a $400 weave that has to be redone every few weeks....go figure.

Do you boo boo!

Just wanted to stop by your page and show some love. I feel what you're sayin'. I'm not sisterlocked but I can definetly feel you nonetheless. To each is it's own and it's the same on both sides of the loc coin: The palmrolled or traditional folks shouldn't consider SLs as snobbish and the SL wearers shouldn't consider look down on them either. We all decide what we like and go for what we like. You got what you liked and the more power to you. Strut your SLS!

Thanks gals. I thought this subject was a good topic for conversation. I had cut down one of my antennas (locs) in the front and a coworker was like "oh... you finally taken your braids out, its gonna take you weeks." I had to kindly let her know for the 20th time that these are not braids, they are sisterlocks and I am not planning on taking them out. Mind you this is the same woman who calls me "rabbit", but keeps asking me for healthy eating tips. Got to love the haters in this world...

I feel you on this one. I'm assuming this stemmed from the thread on Lockitup digest. I think it's all very personal. I am extremely particular about my hair and always have been so what I choose to do with it is up to me and how much money I spend. We are all unique and make different choices. It took me a long time to make a decision to loc after being natural for 7 years. Prior to that, my permed hair was meticulously taken care of as well. When choosing the method, I chose sisterlocks for several reasons and I too justified the cost. (I'll blog about what I think about that cost later..) I love them and I feel so free. I feel like I have the best of both worlds due to the styling options. I never looked at the "snob" factor in all of this until recently while reading everyone's comments. Snobbery has nothing to do with it. It's all in how you choose to maintain yourself in every way. Pride is the word. We take pride in the way we look and feel. Roll with it I say! Cause I'm surely going to do just that! Keep blogging girl, I love to keep up.

Yes, this stemmed from Lockitup. I think there is nothing wrong with having pride in the way you maintain your apperance. I am still excited about my sistelocks, and I do think the excitement about them can be preceived as snobbish when it isn't. I hope that I am still excited about them 6 months now, 6 years from now, or 16 years from now.

I totally agree!!! Depending on who asks I usually say I have locks. There are those who think Sisterlocks aren't locks at all since they are not traditional and they are manicured.
